At The True Liquor, we take immense pride in the quality of our spirits, wines, and beers. Because we deal in regulated alcoholic products, our return and refund processes are strictly governed by Indiana State Law and the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission (ATC).

Please read our policy carefully before placing an order for pickup or delivery from our location at 2915 English Ave, Indianapolis.

1. Legal Restrictions on Alcohol Returns

Under Indiana law, alcoholic beverages cannot be returned simply because you changed your mind, over-bought for an event, or do not like the taste of a product.

All sales made on thetrueliquor.com or at our physical store are considered final, with exceptions made only for the following circumstances:

  • Product Spoilage: The product is inherently defective (e.g., a “corked” or oxidized bottle of fine wine).

  • Fulfillment Error: Our team mistakenly delivered or handed you the incorrect item or vintage.

  • Damaged Goods: The bottle or packaging was broken or significantly damaged during our delivery transit.

2. Damaged or Incorrect Orders (Fulfillment Errors)

If your delivery arrives damaged or contains the wrong bottles, we will happily correct it at no additional cost to you.

  • Inspection: Please inspect your order immediately upon delivery or pickup. If a bottle is broken or incorrect, inform the delivery driver immediately or call us at +1 317-280-7816.

  • Timeframe: You must report any fulfillment errors or physical transit damages within 24 hours of receiving your order.

  • Requirement: To receive a replacement or a refund, you must retain the damaged or incorrect bottle in its original, unopened state (except in the case of transit breakage) and provide the original digital or physical receipt.

3. Defective Products (Spoiled/Corked Wine)

If you open a bottle of wine or spirits and find that it is spoiled or defective:

  • Do not pour the contents out. Indiana regulations require that at least 75% of the liquid remains in the original bottle for us to process a return to the distributor.

  • Bring the bottle, the original cork/cap, and your receipt to our retail storefront at 2915 English Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46201 within 14 days of purchase.

  • Our team will verify the defect, and you will be issued an identical replacement bottle or a store credit.

4. Failed Deliveries and Restocking Fees

Our delivery drivers are legally required to verify that the recipient is 21 years or older with a valid physical photo ID, and is not visibly intoxicated.

If a delivery fails because:

  1. No adult aged 21+ is present to sign for the delivery,

  2. The recipient fails to produce a valid government-issued ID,

  3. The recipient appears visibly intoxicated (per Indiana Code § 7.1-5-10-15),

The order will be canceled and returned to our store. In these instances, you will be issued a refund to your original payment method, minus a $10 restocking and handling fee to cover the cost of the driver’s dispatch. Delivery fees are non-refundable for failed legal verifications.

5. Refund Processing Time

Once a refund is legally approved by our store management:

  • Credit Cards/Digital Payments: Refunds are credited back to the original payment method used at checkout. It typically takes 3 to 7 business days for the funds to reflect in your account, depending on your financial institution.

  • Cash/In-Store Purchases: Approved returns for orders originally paid for in cash at our English Ave storefront will be refunded in cash on the spot.
